Gardening Course

The People’s Community Garden, Maidenhall Allotments
In partnership with WEA

FRIDAYS From 14 October to 25 November
10am to 12 noon & 12.30-2.30pm
(There will be holiday breaks in half term week – Friday 28 October)

Understanding How to Grow Fruit and Vegetables
A chance to learn in a friendly, working environment, with plenty opportunity to practise new skills. This course is ideal for people who have been unemployed for some time and/ or are looking for a new direction

Led by professional horticulturist and teacher Ric Staines. Topics will include:

  • Crop rotation
  • Layout and design of gardens/veg plots
  • Alternative growing systems
  • Fruit growing & siting of fruit garden
  • Planting, pruning & maintenance of tree & soft fruit and much more.

Assessment based on practical work and written/picture log/diary
Some work will be carried out on alternative local sites

Tools and materials provided. Please wear outdoor clothes appropriate for the weather and sturdy boots, preferably steel toe-capped (we have boots to lend). We can provide hot drinks, but please bring a packed lunch.
